About

Founded in 1887, Hoylake Sailing Club is the second oldest such club in Merseyside.  Their clubhouse on Hoylake promenade offers panoramic views across Liverpool Bay, and a friendly atmosphere, and they are always looking to welcome visitors and new members, be it for sailing enjoyment or social pleasure!  A family friendly club, children are always welcome to come along!

At the heart of the Club's sailing is the Opera Class, a classic 16 foot, clinker built, gaff rigged boat first designed and built by members in 1901.  Lovingly maintained, the Club's Opera fleet currently stands at 14.  Racing takes place throughout the season, with a mixture of home series and travel to the local and Menai Strait Regattas.

Another focus of their sailing is the dinghies.  As well as occasional tidal racing in the spring and autumn, regular Friday evening sessions take place through the main season at their base at the Marine Lake, West Kirby.  With a selection of dinghies available to use, newcomers are always welcome!

They also have many members who own and sail larger cruisers, some of which can be seen moored off Meols during the summer alongside the operas.  The Club offers very reasonably priced storage facilities throughout the year.

The Clubhouse is open 5 days of the week.  The most popular session is early doors from 5pm Fridays but they are also open every Monday and Thursday evening and Saturdays and Sundays from late afternoon.  A great range of social events are arranged throughout the year, from formal dinners to more casual affairs.  They also have regular quiz nights, a bridge club, a book club and snooker and pool tables, with annual tournaments and matches being held against kindred clubs, so there really is something for everyone!
