Sailing in a Race
Sailing in a Race

Most of our racing is on the River Mersey, adjacent to Liverpool Marina. Races normally last for up to four hours including locking out onto the river and in again. Other opportunities include longer offshore races, such as the Isle of Man Midnight Race and the Lyver Trophy finishing in Howth, Dublin.

The Club is unique in that it hosts racing throughout the year in 4 classes. IRC Classes 1 and 2 are held on Sundays, these are the faster boats. Classes 3 and 4 (non-IRC, “Venture Racing” using the PY handicap system) are held on Saturdays and are for boats attracted to a more relaxed level of competition.

All boats always need extra crew so if you are keen to crew on one of these boats, contact either:

Matt Heald, Racing captain (classes 1 and 2)

Steve Caunter, Cruising Captain (classes 3 and 4)
